WELCOME to the Creative Arts Therapies

The New Jersey Coalition of Arts Therapies Associations (NJCATA) is an organization of professionals dedicated to advancement of the arts as therapeutic modalities. The coalition helps educate the public and other professionals about the arts therapies and assists member organizations in promoting their disciplines. Four membership organizations are represented within the coalition and include the New Jersey Art Therapy Association, the New Jersey Chapter American Dance Therapy Association, the New Jersey Association of Drama Therapists and the New Jersey Association for Music Therapy. Each NJ creative arts therapy association is endorsed by a national association which has a standard of practice, code of ethics, credentialing standards and procedures, and guidelines for education and training.

There are approximately 500 creative art therapists in New Jersey providing art, dance/movement, music, drama, psychodrama and poetry therapy services in at least 100 settings for thousands of citizens each week. Creative Arts Therapists practice in a variety of settings including hospitals, clinics, day care facilities, schools, community mental health centers, substance abuse facilities, nursing homes, hospices, rehabilitation centers, correctional facilities, shelters and in private practice throughout the state.
